Hammocks made with rope are the most popular on the market with good reason - a well made one is extremely comfortable.
" target="_blank">We make the rope ourselves and build in just enough give to insure you a comfortable nap. The quality of our rope is second to none. It is made with 8 strands of yarn braided around a centre core. Small nicks and cuts in one strand will not weaken the integrity of the braid.
You can customize your naptime experience by choosing the fiber we make the rope from and the style of your hammock - two spreader bar, one spreader bar or no spreader bar (Yucatan-style). Each type of rope hammock has benefits that will help you design your own nap time.
Rope Types:
EarthFriendly Rope: This rope is made from 100% recycled polyester fiber from recycled plastic. The large rope is soft as cotton yet has the durability of polyester. Presently it is available only in white. BUY NOW
Nylon Rope: We hand weave this rope from 100% industrial strength nylon fibre. The yarn we use is the same yarn used to make fish net for the local fishing industry. It is meant to be in and out of salt water, in the sunshine, wet or dry. The colored yarns are solution-dyed; the color will not bleed or fade. Our nylon rope has a tensile strength of 1000 lbs. and has been treated for rot, mildew and ultra violet protection. It is available in four colours: hunter green, white, burgundy and royal blue. Olefin Rope: The advantages of using olefin for rope hammocks are many. It dries quickly and carries moisture away from the skin - great for those hot, humid summer days. It is extremely resistant to breakdown due to chemicals, perspiration, mildew and extreme weather, making it the best choice for areas where the air tends to be polluted. It is stain resistant and easily cleaned - simply rinse your olefin rope hammock in water or spray with the hose to remove accumulated dust and debris. Olefin is relatively light weight, making it easy to take on camping trips, etc. Finally the rope is color-fast, resistant to rot and treated to prevent UV damage. Olefin rope hammocks are available in three colour choices: Natural, Dark green and burgundy. BUY NOW
Cotton: We do not make cotton rope and do not make hammocks with cotton rope. A cotton rope hammock behaves very much like it's cousin, the cotton mop. It stays wet for a long time and then it rots. Having said this, we do sell cotton rope hammocks that are made in Mexico. They are very popular for use in indoor locations and teens love to hang them in their bedroom or basement playroom. They can even add a bright spot of colour to a veranda or sun porch. Some people purchase them to use when doing yoga. A fad or a trend, who knows? But it looks like fun. BUY NOW
Hammock styles:
Two Spreader Bar: This is the traditional rope hammock, held apart with spreader bar at each end. It is important that the spreader bars be made of a hard wood and finished with a durable varnish or oil. We use an organic oil on our spreader bars and make them from hard Canadian maple. Unless you purchase an EarthFriendly rope hammock - these spreader bars are made with a variety of hard woods - all harvested from an FSC certified forest in New Germany, Nova Scotia. We make this hammock in EarthFriendly, nylon or olefin rope - which ever you prefer. BUY NOW
Single Spreader Bar: This is a great hammock. There is a spreader bar at the end where you put your head - it keeps the hammock spread open so it does not close in around you, then allows the hammock to narrow slowly to the foot end, hugging your body in place. This hammock is available in either nylon or EarthFriendly rope. BUY NOW
Yucatan-style (no spreader bars): A hammock with no spreader bars is great if you want to hang it in a spot where the spreader bars will get in the way - on a boat or balcony for example. You lie in these hammocks crosswise or hang them in such a way that they are used for seating instead of lying down. We make the Yucatan-style hammock with olefin rope - it uses a lot of rope and the nylon and EarthFriendly ropes make a hammock that is too heavy for our artisans to work with. BUY NOW
